The DermaSilk Heel-less Undersocks have been designed specifically for patients who, from the age of 50 onwards, may develop skin conditions like gravitational or venous eczema and leg sores due to poor circulation and a weakening of vein walls in the lower legs. Many of these patients also have to wear tight compression hosiery and the reality is that such hosiery is all too frequently discarded as they can make the skin hot and itchy causing further irritation and also take brute strength to pull on and off which can cause the wearer to graze or break the skin surface. DermaSilk Therapeutic Clothing has a growing reputation for dealing with the itch associated with atopic eczema. As with all DermaSilk garments, the knee length Heel-Less Undersocks are made from a special knitted hypoallergenic medical grade silk which helps maintain a stable moisture balance on the skin whilst allowing the free movement of air through the fabric. This reduces itchiness by allowing the skin to stay cool and breathe more easily. DermaSilk also has an antimicrobial shield permanently bonded into the fabric which helps to reduce the possibility of secondary infections on aggravated skin. The Microbe Shield remains highly effective even after 50 washes. In addition, their unique smooth construction makes the application and removal of compression hosiery so much easier whilst at the same time protecting the skin from further damage. As the name suggests, the lack of a heel cup in the sock allows only two sizes to fit most shoe sizes. DermaSilk Heel-less Undersocks are available on prescription.

Ciltech is a range of anti scar treatments to help flatten, smooth and prevent the development of keloid or hypertrophic scars following surgery, burns or other wounds. The Ciltech range comprises sheet and gel variants suitable for most applications. The range consists of 3 sizes of self adhesive silicone sheets backed by a clear semi- permeable polyurethane film. The sheets can be cut to shape and should be placed over the scar and left in place for 24 hours at a time, they can then be reapplied once the skin has been washed and dried. A new sheet can be used every 3-7 days depending on the condition of the dressing. The Ciltech gel is available in a 15g and 60g tube and is a self drying silicone based formulation which dries to form a semi-occlusive film. The gel should be applied as a thin film and reapplied twice daily. Both gel and sheet variants are available on the Drug Tariff and can also be purchased at Pharmacies throughout the UK.

Posifect Bio-electric Wound Dressing offers clinicians an innovative new approach to healing chronic wounds where conventional therapies have failed. Posifect is designed to deliver a specially regulated low intensity DC current which passes through the wound bed replicating the natural “current of injury” which is known to regulate the healing process. These currents are normally generated by living tissue when it is damaged-chronic wounds may lack these healing currents leading to the necessity for bio-current stimulation. Posifect may be used in conjunction with other wound management products
such as exudate management/compression bandaging except silver containing dressings.
Posifect dressings are single use and should be changed every 46-96 hours or more frequently if required. For further information or product demonstration please contact Sumed International on www.sumed.co.uk, Tel 01457 890980 or Fax 01457 890990 or e-mail us at sales@sumed.co.uk
